The Monze Subordinate Court has fined a woman of John Laing Compound in Lusaka K400 for taking photographs during a court processions.
Byta FM Court Beat Journalist reports that 51 year old Hildah Chikwanda stood charged with prohibition on taking photographs.
She is alleged to have taken photos of all parties including, the Magistrate, during a criminal proceeding on 2nd August, 2022.
Facts of the matter are that Chikwanda was present in court when a Court Interpreter, Benson Mweemba, observed that she was taking pictures on her phone.
Court proceedings were halted as she was called by Magistrate Leah Kabalata and asked her what she was doing.
She was later taken to Clerk of Courts, Bizwell Zulu, who took her to Police, where she admitted to recording court proceedings.
In mitigation, Chikwanda asked for leniency, saying she was not aware that recording court proceedings was an offence.
Magistrate Michael Mulalelo fined her K400 to be paid by 18th August, 2022, in default of which would attract a 2 months sentence.
