LUSAKA-MISA Zambia is saddened by the assault of Diamond TV Journalist, Charlotte Sichunda by irate bus operators at Mulungushi Bus Station in Ndola on 9th August 2022.

Reports reaching MISA Zambia indicate that the affected journalist was assaulted during a fracas between the irate bus operators and the Police during a meeting with Transport and Logistics Minister over the recently reduced bus fares by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).

Ms. Sichunda suffered a cut on her nose that left her with four stiches after a stray stone landed on her face.

Such actions jeopardize the lives of journalists who are key players in the dissemination of information. Bus operators should understand that the media as a fourth estate plays a very important role in democracy including providing a platform for engagement with the relevant authorities.

MISA Zambia therefore sympathises with the journalist and wishes her a quick recovery.
