Rapid response by LCC fire fighters managed to prevent an inferno that swept through a wigs and cosmetics shop from engulfing the whole Kamwala Luburma market, in Lusaka.

And Kamwala area councillor Mainda Simataa who rushed to the scene to check the extent of damage, consoled the proprietor of Home of Wigs, Mr. Oke, a Nigerian businessman who was too devastated to speak to the media, but said he was thankful to the council fire fighters for saving his money from the fire, and that everything else was in the hands of God.

Councillor Simataa has reassured Kamwala market traders of enhanced security and fire prevention measures such as early fire alarm warning systems, fire extinguishers, and clearing of passages to allow fire trucks access the innermost parts of the market which once suffered a terrible devasting blaze in 2018.

“We don’t want a repeat of city market, and I urge traders to consider taking fire insurance because the source of the fire is not yet known; it could be electrical fault, it could be arson or even criminal sabotage, anything is possibility. Our collective responsibility is to guard against all possible eventualities,” said councillor Simataa. This is contained in a report published by Smart Eagles.
