Energy Expert Boniface Zulu says government’s promotion of alternative sources of fuel in the country has the potential to create security in the supply of fuel once properly implemented.
Energy Minister Peter Kapala has disclosed that government will construct ethanol plants in Provincial Centres next year in an effort to promote alternative sources of fuel in Zambia.
Reacting to this development, Mr. Zulu says the construction of these plants will address the shortage of fuel and hikes in prices due to external forces from countries where Zambia imports its fuel from and has stressed the need for government to have a contingency plan, a suitable policy to encourage companies to run the industry and to further ensure transparency to attract foreign investors to utilize the opportunity.
He tells Phoenix News that the construction of these ethanol plants will go a long way in improving the energy sector to produce cheaper blended fuel, adding that this will not only benefit the energy sector but boost the economy through creation of jobs.
