TO some people, their perception is that soldiers smile or laugh only at the sight of the bayonet of the gun. But no! Soldiers, like everyone else, are people full of other aspirations in life. They even aspire to read such courses as law.

One such soldier who realistically soldiered into academic work is Mseteka Kabafe, a warrant officer class two in the Zambia Army. He has worked there for 15 years.

Despite those many years in the military, Kabafe’s mind has been perched into legal studies.

Yes, his first vocation is that of being a soldier, and behold, he passed those difficult examinations at the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE), admitted to the legal bar and he is an advocate of the High Court of Zambia.

Kabafe is now a lawyer – like a real one. He obviously exemplified soldier-like courage in the examination room at ZIALE.

In his own words, Kabafe puts it this way:

“After fighting battles for the nation in local operations and undertaking United Nations operations in Central Africa Republic, I never forgot school to overcome ZIALE exams,” Kabafe told Kalemba.

“Most of the people in society have a negative perception about soldiers because of nature of our job. We also adapt the dynamic…”
