Residents of Mwita village in Nakonde’s Mpande ward have embarked on an urgent community project of constructing a temporary crossing structure on the Nachang’ombe Bridge for the tenth time notes residents.

A resident spoken to, Given Simfukwe says that the bridge is always dismantled and reconstructed each year prior to the rainy season as the river flows in spate.

Mr. Simfukwe says residents have since time in memorial been constructing a temporary structures year in year out on the river after their alleged repeated pleas to elected representatives and district administration fell on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, Ward councilor, Nathan Sichalwe tells Nakonde Radio FM news that numerous efforts have been made to ensure the bridge is worked on and ease all challenges.

“Last week in the company of Nakonde council secretary, Michael Katemwe visited the area, we noticed the challenges residents in the area are facing, and I can assure them that all efforts are being made to ensure that the bridge is worked on as soon as possible”. Sichalwe said.
