The ill-fated Toyota Hiace which killed 12 people on Great East Road on Saturday was being driven by a co-driver and is said to have had issues with its brakes the previous day.
Commuters Rights Association of Zambia president Aaron Kamuti said he personally knows the driver of the bus and he was not the person behind the wheels when the accident occurred on Saturday but his assistant.
Mr Kamuti said the accident shows not only a case of indiscipline among public service vehicle drivers, but also the existence of many inexperienced transporters ferrying and risking lives of passengers.
“The person who was driving that bus is not the one who drives that bus, I know the boy who drives that bus. This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily Mail.
