Officer Macklin made the donation under the auspices of the God’s Christian Missionary Service (GCMS), a United States of America Christian organization with Church branches in Zambia.
Officer Macklin said the Chief of Decatur Police Department, Todd Pinson was excited to share the protective garments with the Zambia Police Service.
He said the relationship between the two Police Departments should be enhanced for possible joint training programmes.
And receiving the donated items on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police In-Charge of Administration, Doris Nayame Chibombe thanked the Decatur Police Department and the GCMS for having a thought of donating the bullets proofs and the Bibles to the Zambia Police Service.
“We have lost men and women in uniform in line of duty whose lives could have been saved had they been wearing bullet proof vests,” she lamented.
She added: “As a result of these unfortunate deaths and in order to protect the officers who on daily basis put their lives on the line to protect others, the government has put up a programme of procuring the bullet proof vests and other protective garments.”
She said the donated Bullet Proof Vests will go a long way in complimenting government efforts of ensuring that Police officers are properly equipped to effectively fight crime and at the same time protect their lives.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police further thanked the Chief of Decatur Police Department for the good gesture.
