The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) has cautioned its members against overborrowing from financial institutions because high indebtedness is contributing to poor work output.
CSAWUZ Southern Province coordinator Bruce Muleya says poor work performance among some public workers is because of stress resulting from high debt.
Mr Muleya regrets that most CSAWUZ members are highly indebted.
“Poor performance or wrong attitudes we see in some of these offices are compounded by poor borrowing habits among civil servants such that people are going home with literally nothing at the month-end.
“This is where you find some of us going to our offices frustrated and our concentration at work is undesirable and output is bad due to personal problems,” he said.
Mr Muleya implored newly employed health workers and teachers to avoid being trapped in debt. This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily mail.
