(ZNBC) Government has signed a concession agreement to design, finance, build and maintain the Chingola to Kasumbalesa road through a Public Private Partnership -PPP model.
The agreement has been signed with Turbo Investment Consortia -TIC.
Government has also signed another concession agreement for the construction of township roads and housing units in Kalumbila district with Trans Engineering Road Construction Limited.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said Government has decided to use the PPP model because when it took over Government, it found there was deficiency in infrastructure and a lot of money was borrowed.
Dr. Musokotwane explained that Government will not spend any money in the deal that has been signed but that the partner who is going to construct the Kasumbalesa -Chingola road will recover its money through Toll gates.
He explained that Government is still negotiating with the Private sector on the Lusaka dual carriage way which was contracted at One Point Two Billion dollars by the previous government.
And Infrastructure Development Minister Charles Milupi said the construction of the road will ease transportation of goods and services into the Democratic Republic of Congo.
