Minister of Home Affairs Jack Mwiimbu says he is unaware of Mkushi Member of Parliament Christopher Chibuye’s shooting.
The Lawmaker is believed to have been attacked and shot at yesterday in Mkushi at a police station.
Pictures of the vehicle he was in, depicting holes where bullets allegedly hit took rounds on various media platforms with his attack getting coverage from notable media houses.
When the issue was brought up in Parliament today by Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo, the Minister said he did not receive any report on the matter and encouraged those with information to report the matter to police.
On the violence that occurred in Kafue between two UPND factions, Mr Mwiimbu said the perpetrators have been locked up by the police awaiting court’s appearance.
And the Minister said that there will be patrols day and night in the townships and business centers following reports of junkies terrorizing citizens.
He also disclosed that there are illegal guns that are operating in many areas.
Mr Mwiimbu however stressed that it is government’s responsibility to ensure that law and order prevails for the sake of all citizens
“There are illegal guns that are operating in so many other areas. It is our responsibility to ensure that law and order prevails in this country for the sake of all of us,” he said.
“There will be patrols that will be taking place day and night. We will have security checkpoints to ensure that vehicles are checked.”
