TO STRENGTHEN management of identity of Zambians, Government has launched the National Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Policy (CRVS), which will also promote the registration of births, deaths, marriages and divorces.
Further, the document will enhance registration of adoption, legitimation and recognition, as well as strengthen the coordination, production and dissemination of vital statistics using a harmonised system.
Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu said every country needs to maintain a comprehensive CRVS system as a basis for legal identity and source of vital statistics.
Mr Mwiimbu said CRVS helps in planning and monitoring success records. “More needs to be done to increase coverage in the registration of vital events and to sustain the gains that the country has recorded so far. This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily Mail.
