The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board -HELSB- has awarded student loans to 2,000 eligible first-year students for the 2022/2023 academic year at the University of Zambia.
HELSB Senior Corporate Communications Officer Chiselwa Kawanda says the board received 4,515 applications for sponsorship at the University of Zambia
Ms. Kawanda explains that of the applicants, 4,075 were eligible while 440 were ineligible for sponsorship.
She says the ineligible applicants completed Grade 12 before 2018, non-attachment of required documents to the student loan application, being older than 24 years and having 2021 academic year admission letters.
Ms. Kawanda adds that the board received 13 applications from students living with disabilities, 11 male and 2 female, representing 0.3 percent of the total applicants. She says students picked include 2,433 females and 282 males.
