TWO suspected illegal miners have died in Chingola district on the Copperbelt after a trench they were digging copper from fell on them, police have said.
Copperbelt Province police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said in a statement that the mine incident happened on Friday around 14:00 hours at SP12 in the Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) mine plant.
He identified the victims as Amos Mwewa, 24, of Hellen area, and Bruce Filipe, 22, of Chiwempala Township.
The two died after being buried alive at SP12 after a trench they were digging copper ore from collapsed on them, killing them instantly. This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily Mail.
