(NAIS) At least 61,000 farmer households in Southern Province have been affected Fall Army Worms .

Southern Province Agricultural Coordinator MAX CHOOMBE says about 41,000 hectares have been affected by the Fall Army Worms.Dr.

CHOOMBE was speaking when he gave an update on the Fall Army Worms attack on farmer households in Southern Province at Lusumpuko House in Choma.

He noted that the ministry will continue with awareness campaigns as the pest can affect the overall yield in the province if not controlled.

And Senior Field Crops Officer NOVAS SOMANJE said Kalomo is the most affected district in the province with at least 13,000 hectares being affected with over 23,000 farmer households.

Meanwhile Principal Agricultural Officer PAUL NYAMBE has advised farmers to use a cheap and effective control method of using a chemical known as belt.

Mr. NYAMBE called on farmers to treat farming as a business by spending on the purchase of chemicals as they wait for the government to supply chemicals in the Province. This is contained in a report published by ZNBC.
