I had just won a 1Million in the ZANACO Kweza business competition and as I was chatting with my brother he told me; Madala; now you need to upgrade, at your level you can’t continue driving a Passo; you need to buy a Hilux or a Ford Ranger. You also need a wardrobe upgrade, at least set aside even a 20,000 to buy new clothes, you need to look presentable.
This kind of advice is the reason why poverty is thriving in Africa. Immediately people receive money their status goes up; their car is nolonger comfortable, their clothes are nolonger presentable, their house becomes small for others even their spouse is nolonger attractive.
That’s why we have people who are working and earning an income every month but they are always broke because all their money is spent on financing an imaginary status. Retirees blow up their money and become destitute’s in the process of upgrading their status.
My greatest challenge in life is being rediculed by people who think I don’t live according to my status. They make fun of my car, my clothes, my house and my lifestyle. However, I am never bothered by such coz my am a man on a mission. As a young entrepreneur avoid falling in the trap of being prescribed a lifestyle by people who don’t understand your vision all in the name of status.
Wise up and stop that hand to mouth mentality. You’ll die poor and your children will become destitute’s. Actually the same people will go round telling the story of how the once successful entrepreneur has fallen and make fun of you.
