(ZNBC) Over 1,600 households have been displaced from their homes due to floods in Mazabuka district of Southern Province.
And 1,100t hectares of crop fields have been destroyed in the district.
This came to light when Vice President Mutale Nalumango, toured Magoye area in Mazabuka district, to appreciate the damage caused by floods.
And the Vice President has assured the affected families that Government will provide the necessary support to all the affected families.
Mrs. Nalumango says more tents and relief food will be provided through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU.
The Vice President added that the flood situation across the country is overwhelming for Government, because even areas that are not flood prone have been affected.
She has appealed to the private sector to support Government in its effort to alleviate the suffering of the affected families.
Meanwhile, Magoye Member of Parliament, Mweemba Malambo has thanked Government, through DMMU for the quick response.
Mr. Malambo further said that there is need for Government to quickly work on the damaged bridges and school infrastructure which had roofs brown off.
