A 26-year-old man of Lumezi district in Eastern Province who killed his father by hitting him with a stick over beer has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Bright Mucheleka assaulted his father after accusing him of hiding some of the alcohol they were drinking together with other people at their house.
Facts before the court are that on July 25, 2020 around 10:00 hours, the victim invited his neighbours to help him harvest cotton from his field.
After the harvest, he offered them a traditional brew called mvolo as way of thanking them.
A few hours later, he ran out of beer and announced the predicament to his guests.
However, this did not sit well with his son, who at that time was reportedly drunk.
