Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera has visited some Malawians affected by tropical cyclone Freddy. The President has declared 14 days of national mourning and has ordered that all flags fly at half mast for 7 days in honour of those that have died.

After visiting some of the affected areas the Malawi leader called for an emergency cabinet meeting to approved funds with which to assist victims. 2.6 billion Kwacha (approximately 1.5 million US Dollars) have since been approved by cabinet to assist victims.

However, the Malawi leader has appealed for more support from the international community.

He has just finished addressing the Nation.

The President has also directed that everyone who is missing should be accounted for, the dead should be accorded dignified burial and those that are trapped in other places should be brought to safety.
