(ZNBC) Government says it is actively monitoring the welfare of Zambians based in Sudan which has been affected by conflict.

Thirty known Zambian nationals reside in Sudan, consisting of eight peacekeepers from the Zambia Army and Zambia Police Service, six university students, and 16 employees of various International Organisations, including the United Nations.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Stanley Kakubo says the Zambians are domiciled across several cities in Sudan, which are Khartoum, Abyei, Gadaref, Kosti, and Darfur.

Mr Kakubo says 18 Zambians are in the areas affected by the conflict, and that the Zambian Embassy in Addis Ababa, which oversees Sudan, has been in constant touch with them.

He says four Zambians have since left Sudan for a safer destination with the help of their employers, while the eight officers from the security wings are in a safe area.

According to ZNBC, Mr Kakubo said in a statement that the 18 Zambians are in high spirits and that Government will continue to check on all Zambian nationals in that country.
