Local Government Minister Gary Nkombo says the removal of street vendors from the Central Business District of Lusaka was done because it is illegal under the Market and Bus Station Act.
Mr. Nkombo says street vendors have been urged to go back to the markets that have empty spaces because those are the right places to trade from.
He says this was done to bring back sanity to the Central Business District because the government is centered on restoring law and order.
Speaking when he delivered a Ministerial statement in Parliament, Mr. Nkombo said allowing street vendors to operate has seen a proliferation of illegal activities.
