A KAWAMBWA welder has died after sustaining multiple facial injuries when a tyre he was welding burst in his face.

Bernard Chansa was found in a pool of blood after the incident which happened at his workshop.

Luapula Commanding Officer Fwambo Siame has revealed that the incident happened on Sunday when the deceased was working at his workshop.

“Brief facts of the matter are that the said deceased person received a customer at his shop where he does some metal fabrication (welding) who had a motor vehicle tyre which was inflated to be welded.

“The deceased decided to do some welding on it without removing air from it and in the process, the tyre got heated and bursted in his face. He sustained multiple cuts on the face and damaged both lower and upper jaws with excessive bleeding and died on the spot,” Mr Siame said.

He said police visited the scene where the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood facing upward. “The body was thoroughly inspected and had multiple injuries on the head coupled with excessive bleeding. A Motor vehicle tyre for a tipper truck that bursted and a welding machine were also found at the scene,” he said
