THE Kaumba Secondary School Board in Monze has pleaded with government to consider revising the K1, 000 school fee allocation per child in government schools in view of rising food prices.

Government through the Free Education Policy has been providing bursaries to vulnerable learners in government schools.

School Head Teacher Central Mboozi says food prices have gone up making it difficult to the budgetary guidelines attached to the school grants and fees.

He highlights that the price of maize stood at K98 per 50 kilogram bag in 2020 which has since increased to K330 in 2023.

Speaking during the school’s Parents Teachers Association Annual Meeting Friday, Mboozi nonetheless thanked government for introducing Free Education saying it has addressed the challenge of unpaid fees.

Kaumba has a total of 1,300 pupils, which comprise of 605 boys and 699 girls.
