The Zambian Mission in Morocco held a luncheon for the Zambia Women’s National Team at the embassy offices stationed in Morocco’s capital Rabat.
Head of Mission Eliphas Chinyonga invited the Copper Queens delegation led by Esther Bwalya to the office where they were hosted for lunch.
Some Zambian students based in Morocco were also invited to the luncheon.
“This lunch has been overdue, and we are happy to host you here because you are our champions. You have represented us well from the time you came for the WAFCON (Women’s Africa Cup of Nations ) in 2022 and we are happy you continue doing so here,” Chinyonga said.
“We are proud of the results and we urge you to continue working hard because like I heard from the coaches, you have very important assignments coming up and you need to be at your best to beat your opponents.”
Bwalya thanked the embassy for hosting the Copper Queens while defender Esther Siamfuko assured the embassy that the team will continue putting in the hard work for positive results.
Zambia were in Morocco for a two-series friendly with the Atlas Lionesses. The Bruce Mwape coached side won the first game 2-0 in Casablanca before completing a double with a resounding 6-2 win in Rabat.
The matches were used to prepare the team for the COSAFA Women’s Championship, the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers and WAFCON qualifiers.
The team is expected back home on Thursday.
