Kitwe Fire Brigade and CEC Personnel yesterday responded to a car-on-fire incident at house No. 2446 along Presidential Road involving a Mercedes Benz Registration Number BAK 8037 ZM belonging to Mr Saviour Mvula.

The report came through at 09:50 hours and offices were dispatched to the scene immediately. However, by the time the officers arrived, the fire had spread throughout the car.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the car’s electric system.

Car owners who have observed abnormalities with their vehicles should immediately engage qualified personnel to work on them or risk short-circuiting which might lead to a fire. The vehicles should therefore be offline until worked on.

The Local Authority is dismayed by the continued behaviour of residents stoning the fire trucks and officers when they are attending to emergencies.

This behaviour is detrimental to offering the service to the community as it causes property damage and also instils fear in officers who will be responding to emergencies.

Members of the public are therefore reminded that vandalism is a serious crime and those found might spend some good years in prison.
