The girls aged 17 and 15 drowned while swimming in the river,
They have been identified as ELIZABETH KAYATA a Grade 11 pupil at Kalabo Secondary School, and MIRRIAM FUNALO 15, a Grade 9 pupil at Nalionwa Day Secondary School.
Kalabo District Council Chairperson, DAVID NYUNDU has confirmed the incident, which happened on Monday.
Mr. NYUNDU explained that the girls were swimming in the river, when ELIZABETH drowned, and upon noticing this, MIRRIAM attempted to save the friend, and also drowned in the process.
The bodies of the 2 girls have been retrieved from the river.
