…. as part of its support to ensure that the girls remain in schools

Shibuyunji… Monday November 27, 2023

Vedanta Resources had today donated over 2, 000 sanitary pads to girls at Shibuyunji Secondary School as part of its support to ensure that the girls remain in schools.

Vedanta Resources Zambia Director Corporate Communications Masuzyo Ndhlovu says it is not a secret that not all girls in schools can manage to have access to these materials and that is why they have come on board to reach out and help support the wellbeing of girls.

In a speech read on his behalf by Vedanta Resources Zambia Social Media Strategist Kalaluka Mushaukwa, Mr Ndhlovu said Vedanta Resources is passionate about education for the children because of its key role they play in human development.

“At the same time, we remain alive to the fact that our girl children face numerous challenges and end up missing classes owing to their menstrual cycles and their inability to purchase sanitary towels. From the time we commenced our operations in Zambia, we have made a commitment to ensure that we support our surrounding communities in various sectors,” he said.

“In line with the our period Poverty Campaign we donated about 1, 000 reusable sanitary towels to Awanachi a renowned Zambian women’s lifestyle magazine that was later donated in schools. A few months ago, we donated about 5, 000 sanitary towels to Zambian social media influencer, Ms. Mwizukanji.”

He emphasized that in January this year, Vedanta corporate social responsibility (CSR) team donated an assortment of sanitary pads to
different schools in Chingola.

“With the increased allocation towards CSR, you will see more of such programs and initiatives coming from us. I wish to emphasize that Vedanta Resources has set aside US$20 million as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. We will be working closely with communities through the Community Trust initiative, which is community driven.”

And Shibuyunji Secondary School Headteacher Charity Daka thanked Vedanta Resources for the donation saying it will go a long way in helping the girls remain in school.

Speaking ealier, social media influencer Theresa Lyainga encouraged the girls to remain focused and remain in school for them to make it in life.
