Zambia’s Chipolopolo coach, Avram Grant, has taken an unexpected approach in preparing the team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Grant is focusing on fitness and tactics, particularly for players who haven’t had much playing time at their clubs in recent months. This decision aims to ensure that the team is in top physical condition and ready to compete against the continent’s best.

Grant acknowledges that Zambia is considered a Pot 3 team and faces tough competition from higher-ranked teams. He aims to select players who can prove their worth and make a significant contribution to the team’s success. To achieve this, the coach has called up more players than usual for evaluation during the training camp.

Looking ahead, Grant plans to continue the team’s preparations in Saudi Arabia, where they will play two international friendly matches against Cameroon and another opponent yet to be confirmed. The choice of Saudi Arabia is due to its excellent facilities and favorable weather for intensive training sessions.

With the squad announcement just around the corner, Grant is carefully considering his options for the tough Group F matches against Congo DR, Morocco, and Tanzania. The coach’s ultimate goal is to improve Zambia’s performance and continue the progress made in recent times.
