Police have arrested Obed Chileshe, a 30-year-old resident of New Kasama, Lusaka, in connection with a theft case. Chileshe, widely known as Chile One, is accused of stealing K6,530 from Radio Maria Yatsani Voice, also based in Lusaka.
The alleged theft occurred between April 27 and April 28, 2023. According to reports, the radio station had contracted Chileshe to produce a jingle for K6,500. The agreed payment was sent to his FNB account, but Chileshe claimed the funds did not appear in his account.
Subsequently, the station’s management transferred an additional K6,530 to Chileshe’s MTN mobile money number, with an agreement that he would refund the initial amount once it reflected in his FNB account. While Chileshe did produce the jingle, he allegedly failed to repay the initial amount.
After an investigation by the police, Chileshe was arrested today at around 12:00 PM. He is currently in custody awaiting formal charges.
