THE family of a 13-year-old pupil of Kabwe who died last week allegedly after a fight with his 10-year-old classmate have been left devastated and are at pains to understand how he died.

Kingstone Mpundu, a Grade 3 pupil at a local school in Kabwe’s Makululu, allegedly fought with his classmate over who was good at reading Bemba.

His father Webby Chancer and Central Province deputy police commanding officer Lemekani Chirwa confirmed the death of Kingstone, who was buried on Friday.

Mr Chancer said at his home in Makululu that his son was fine as of Wednesday morning before he left for school.

He said he was expected to report at school at 10:00 hours and knock off around 15:00 hours.

“When he knocked off, we don’t really know what transpired,” Mr Chancer said. “We just heard that he had been beaten and he had died.”

He wondered how a mere fight could have caused his death because as far he is concerned, the boy was not sick.

Mr Chancer said according to Kingstone’s classmate, his son teased him after he allegedly failed to read in class and that is how the two fought outside.
