In a continued commitment to supporting the Government’s free education policy and aiding vulnerable learners, First Lady Mutinta Hichilema has announced the sponsorship of 20 girls in secondary schools.

This initiative is aimed at assisting students from DaGama School for Children with Physical Disabilities in Luanshya and Chileshe Chepela Special School in Kasama, allowing them to pursue their education with dignity.

In a statement on her social media page, Mrs. Hichilema said that through this generous sponsorship, the girls will be able to cover essential expenses such as boarding fees, school uniforms, groceries, and other vital items required for their schooling.

The First Lady emphasized the importance of ensuring that vulnerable learners have equal access to educational opportunities, particularly those in boarding schools who often face greater financial challenges.

“The support provided to these girls is made possible through a partnership with Merck Foundation, a long-standing partner in promoting educational development in Zambia,” she said.

The First Lady expressed her gratitude to the Foundation for their continuous commitment to empowering vulnerable students and for their substantial contribution to this initiative.

In addition to aiding secondary school learners, Merck Foundation has also provided scholarships to 23 tertiary students across various universities and colleges in Zambia.

This further exemplifies the Foundation’s dedication to creating long-term, sustainable change by empowering young Zambians to pursue higher education and improve their futures.

The First Lady wished the girls success in their studies as they embark on their secondary education journey, encouraging them to seize the opportunity to excel and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
