A 57-YEAR-OLD man of Sinazongwe accused of being one of the ritual killers involved in the disappearance of two three-year-old children, including his biological son, has died after complaining of chest pain and difficulties breathing while in police custody.
Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka said Alfred Mayumu, of Mubbike village under Chief Sinazongwe, was apprehended by members of the community together with Ashas Simabonde, 28, and Foster Siantumba, 30, on allegations of being involved in the suspected ritual murd£r of two children.
The children went missing and are feared dead after their clothes and some human b0nes were later found in the bush.
Police detained the three suspects together with a native doctor, Duncan Phiri, 64, of Lusaka, who was engaged to assist with the search of the missing children.
The traditional doctor was almost lynched by the public for giving false hope that the children were still alive.
He said the native doctor was released while the three suspects who were alleged to be involved in the ritual murd£r remained in custody as investigations continued.
“However, no real evidence has been gathered to connect the three suspects to the matter apart from speculations by some members of the community, who are alleging that the three of them had worked together to murd£r the children for rituals,” Mr Daka said.
