Recent flooding in Lusaka has been attributed to the city’s inadequate drainage systems, according to Vickson Ncube, ZESCO Limited Board Chairperson. Despite heavy rainfall, water levels at the Kariba Dam remain below minimum levels; however, continued precipitation may lead to increased power generation.

Ncube clarified that the flooding in Lusaka is a localized issue stemming from the city’s infrastructure, rather than a reflection of overall water levels in the region. He noted that if Zambia continues to experience consistent rainfall through mid-February, there is a potential for rising water levels in the Kariba Dam, which would enable greater power generation.

It is essential for residents to remain informed about both the ongoing efforts to address Lusaka’s drainage issues and the status of the Kariba Dam, as these factors play a crucial role in the region’s infrastructure and energy supply. Stay tuned for updates as the situation evolves.
