A drúnken citizen, later identified as Clive Mukuwa, 48, from Katozi in Nakonde, has been formally charged and fined K89 for making a false alarm to the fíre department.

On Monday afternoon Mukuwa called the fire brigade in Nakonde, claimed there was a road traffic accident in Katozi, but upon arrival, the fire brigade found him and his friend int0xicated, with no accídent in sight.

He has been charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peace and has since paid the admission of guilty fine and has since been released.

If taken to court, such conduct can attract a simple imprisonment sentence of up to one month.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Dennis Moola who has confirmed the development to Chete FM News has emphasized the importance of responsible behavior when making emergency calls, cautioning the public to only make emergency calls in very serious situations, as false alarms can attract penalties.
