A 17-year-old boy from Soft Katongo area in Kasama District has died in unclear circumstances.
According to his uncle, Mathews Bwalya, the deceased, identified as Nicholas Mulundu, left home in good health on Saturday, 15th February 2025, at around 12:00 hours.
However, just two hours later, Mr. Bwalya received a call informing him that Nicholas had allegedly been picked up by the police on accusations of phone theft.
Concerned, Mr. Bwalya and other family members rushed to the police station, only to be told that Nicholas had been taken to the hospital.
Upon arrival at the medical facility, they were met with the shocking news that he had passed away.
In an attempt to seek answers, tensions flared at the police station, leading to a fracas before the crowd was eventually dispersed.
During Nicholas’ burial on Tuesday, 18th February 2025, Mr. Bwalya revealed that a postmortem examination had confirmed his nephew sustained neck injuries, which are believed to have caused his death.
Police are yet to issue a statement regarding the matter.
