The Miles Sampa-led Patriotic Front (PF) faction has raised concerns over the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) failure to investigate alleged corruption in the procurement of fúèl, the awarding of a pipeline contract to Agrofúèl and other companies, and procurement deals conducted by the Ministry of Defence through a Kenyan company.
In a statement, PF faction president Miles Sampa emphasized that it is a matter of public record that Emmanuel Mwamba formally reported the issue to the ACC in November 2023.
“It is a matter of public record that Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba formally reported the issue to your commission in November 2023. Additionally, we are aware that the Zambia Civil Liberties Union, an organization committed to constitutionalism and the rule of law, petitioned the Chief Justice to establish a tribunal to investigate this contract. Regrettably, there has been no notable progress to date,” said Sampa.
The Matero lawmaker urged the ACC to disclose the results of its investigations to both the public and affected individuals. He stressed that transparency is essential to prevent unnecessary speculation regarding what he described as the commission’s lack of progress.
He added that president Hichilema has repeatedly affirmed that individuals involved in corruption will be held accountable, however the commission’s inaction raises serious doubts about the sincerity of this commitment.
“The lack of decisive action against implicated companies and officials only fuels public scepticism and undermines the fight against corruption” he added.
He further stated that PF members of Parliament led by himself intend to raise the matter on the floor to highlight the alarming inconsistency between government’s Anti-Corruption pronouncements and the reality of stalled investigations, as Parliament resumes.
Sampa and the PF MP’s have since requested for an update on the investigation into the 25 million United States Dollars mílitary supply contract awarded to a Kenyan company, DLS Limited, with no prior track record.
“We expect a comprehensive update on the status of these investigations within 14days from the date of this letter” Sampa concluded.
