A 17-year-old boy drowned in Chimutowe Dam in Chief Kalindawalo, Petauke District, on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025.
Kennedy Phiri, a resident of Chimutowe Village, was herding cattle with his stepbrother along the shores of the dam when the incident occurred.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, Kennedy entered the dam to bring back the cattle that had crossed to the other side but struggled to stay afloat.
Mr. Mweemba says Kennedy’s body was retrieved from the dam on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, by a team of police officers and fire brigade personnel.
The body was handed over to the relatives for burial, and no foul play is suspected.
