The Copperbelt University is mourning the tragic loss of one of its students, Hannah Mwanza, who died today in a road accident. This happened when a bus, carrying 68 passengers, including 47 CBU students, was involved in an accident at Kafulafuta along the Ndola-Kapiri road. Tragically, two people lost their lives, with Hannah being confirmed as one of the victims. Several others sustained injuries in the crash.
Hannah was a fifth-year student in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. In a statement released on the university’s official Facebook page, CBU expressed deep sorrow over the untimely passing of the young scholar.
The university’s message read:
“The Copperbelt University community is deeply saddened by the passing of Hannah Mwanza, a fifth-year student in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, who tragically lost her life in a road traffic accident on 26th February 2025. Hannah was a promising young scholar whose journey had only just begun. Her untimely passing is a profound loss to her family, friends, and the entire CBU community.”
The statement further extended heartfelt condolences to Hannah’s family and loved ones, offering them strength during this difficult time.
“In this moment of grief, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
