As the nation celebrates Police Day, Lusaka-based lawyer Celestine Mambula Mukandila has called on Zambia’s security forces to reaffirm their commitment to upholding democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
In a statement, Mukandila emphasized that it was time for the country’s men and women in uniform to renew their sacred oath to serve Zambia with integrity and professionalism.
He reminded them that their primary duty was to protect and defend the Zambian Constitution, which serves as the foundation of the nation’s governance.
He noted that the responsibilities of the security forces extend beyond maintaining law and order, stating that they are also the defenders of Zambia’s sovereignty and freedom.
He urged law enforcement officers to prioritize human rights, ensure justice for all, and uphold the highest ethical standards.

He stressed that law enforcement agencies must recognize the need for accountability and transparency in their work, calling for the elimination of impunity and corruption within their ranks.
He further stated that Zambia’s security forces have a crucial role in ensuring that democratic values enshrined in the Constitution are upheld.
He underscored the need for Police Officers to protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, and ensure that the rule of law is applied equally to everyone.
Mr. Mukandila concluded by reminding officers that their service is more than just a profession—it is a noble calling that requires unwavering dedication, integrity, and selflessness.
He acknowledged their sacrifices and bravery, stating that they are the true heroes of the nation.
