Three two-year-old children, including a set of twins, drowned in an open well in Mambwe district, Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident, identifying the victims as twins Prudence and Prince Phiri, along with Emelda Miti.

The tragedy occurred between 12:00 and 15:00 hours at crop fields where the children had accompanied their parents. Their father, Juvensio Phiri, left them unattended to visit neighbors, only to return and find their bodies floating in the well.

All three bodies have since been retrieved.
