Mpongwe Member of Parliament and former Government Deputy Chief Whip Gregory Ngowani last night allegedly caused drama and disturbed business at Bukari lodge when he unleashed slaps on United Party for National Development (UPND) youth vice chairperson Sibu Muloshi following an argument.

The MP, who was reportedly intoxicated and surrounded by his security men, allegedly started by insũlting the Provincial Minister Elisha Matambo for making him lose his job as Government Deputy Chief Whip, before turning to Muloshi with slaps on his face and back while workers at the lodge and sympathizers pleaded with the MP to leave the lodge.

In a video taken by some revellers and accessed by Radio Mpongwe, some workers are heard pleading with the MP to leave the premises as they feared losing business.

Narrating the ordeal to Radio Mpongwe, Muloshi said he had gone to Bukari lodge to check on his colleagues.

He said while still there, he noticed the presence of the MP in the company of his security detail.

“Upon seeing the honourable, I went and greeted him and then proceeded to see the people I had gone to meet,” he said
He further said he heard noise of people arguing and fighting outside and when he went to check, he found that it was Mikata ward councilor Chrispin Tembo who was being beaten by Ngowani’s security men.

“They were beating Mr. Tembo while insǔlting the Copperbelt Provincial Minister Elisha Matambo and the District Chairperson Humphrey Chibundi” he said.

According to Muloshi, when he tried to separate them, they started insũlting him together with Matambo while Ngowani was watching.

He said the only offence he committed was to tell them to stop insǔlting the Minister and the District chairman.

“The next thing I heard was a slap from the MP on my face and another slap that landed on my car, telling me that the same Matambo I was talking about was responsible for the loss of his position as Government Deputy Chief Whip. I could not fight back because of the respect I have for the MP but instead I decided to report the matter to Mpongwe police station,” he said.

A reporter from Radio Mpongwe who rushed to Mpongwe police station found Muloshi arguing with a police officer only identified as Inspector Muhau, who refused to take the statement but advised that the matter be resolved by the party.

Efforts by Radio Mpongwe to get a comment from Ngowani proved futile as his phone went unanswered.
