A female juvenile at Silombe Island in Mwandi district has taken her life by hanging herself after being shouted at by her biological mother concerning her illicit love affair with her boyfriend.
After shouting at her, Monde Mate aged 18 decided to take her own l!fe by hang!ng herself using a chitenge material from a tree behind her parents house and was discovered hanging dead from the a tree.
Western Division Police Commanding Officer, David Chileshe disclosed that the incident occurred around 15:00 hours and was reported at Mwandi Police station on March 13, 2025 at 19:20 hours by the deceased’s brother in law Mwangala Kalonga aged 25 of Silombe Island in Mwandi District.
Mr Chileshe revealed this in a press statement made available to ZANIS.
“Brief facts of the matter were that on the material day the deceased was shouted at by her biological mother concerning her illicit love affair with her boyfriend. This did not sit well with her which led her to take her own L!fe. She was discovered hang!ng from a tree dead”, he said.
Mr Chileshe said that police retrieved the body and that no foul play was suspected after inspection.
He stated that the deceased’s body has been deposited to Mwandi Mission Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
