Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said the incident occurred yesterday around 10 hours, along the Mlawe stream in Chief Pembamoyo’s area.
Mr. Mweemba who identified the deceased as Landisani Phiri of Kachile village says a post-mortem examination revealed that Phiri died from suffocation.
He told Breeze FM News that the incident occurred in the presence of his two wives Melisa and Charity Banda aged 39 and 38 respectively.
According to brief facts, the deceased had left his home around 06:00 hours to mine for gold, and his wives joined him later.
Unfortunately, the stream bank collapsed during the operation, burying him underneath.
