The Ministry of Health strongly condemns reports of corruption and illegal charges by certain individuals within public hospitals. It has come to our attention that some unscrupulous staff members are demanding payments for services that are meant to be free.
The Ministry reiterates that all citizens are entitled to quality healthcare without undue financial burden. Any official payments must be accompanied by a government-issued receipt. We urge the public to refuse unauthorized charges and report such incidents to the Ministry of Health or law enforcement agencies.
We are intensifying efforts to eradicate these corrupt practices, but public cooperation is essential. We call on all citizens to help identify and expose individuals engaging in these unlawful activities. By working together, we can hold perpetrators accountable and preserve the integrity of our healthcare system.
Additionally, we have received alarming reports of individuals posing as medical personnel to extort money from patients. The Ministry warns that legal action will be taken against anyone involved in such fraudulent activities. We are also addressing illegal operations at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), commonly known as “CHIMUTENGO.”
We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Healthcare is a Right, not a privilege—no one should be coerced into paying for services that are meant to be free.
The Ministry remains committed to protecting the public from exploitation and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare. Let us stand together to eliminate corruption and uphold trust in our health system.
