Luapula Province Minister, Nason Musonda, has described the deaths of ten men who drowned in Luena River and another who was struck by lightning while attempting to rescue his colleagues as a painful and significant loss to Kawambwa and the nation.

Speaking during a church service for the deceased at Poosa Primary School, Musonda expressed the community’s grief and assured the victims’ families of the government’s support.

He announced measures to improve waterway safety, including the construction of a footbridge within a month and the resumption of work on a stalled permanent bridge.

Musonda also urged Kawambwa Sugar Company to consider compensation for the victims’ families.
