On Tuesday, 8th April 2025, the Lusaka Regional Immigration Office successfully apprehended 41 suspected illegal immigrants across various parts of Lusaka, including Kanyama, Lusaka West, Chunga, Lilanda, and Matero.
Immigration Department Spokesperson Namati Nshinka says this operation was part of the Department of Immigration’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration in Zambia.
Mr Nshinka said the individuals apprehended include 26 Burundians, eight Congolese, two Tanzanians, one Chinese national, and one Rwandese.
“Three Zambians were also taken into custody for obstructing officers in the due execution of their duties. All suspects have been detained and are currently undergoing screening and further processing. The 8th April operation brings the total number of individuals apprehended for immigration-related offenses across the country between 7th and 8th April 2025 to 107,” he disclosed.
“Further, on 8th April, 2025, 45 Ethiopian nationals who had paid court fines for illegal entry and unlawful stay in Zambia were removed from the country. These individuals were removed aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport. This latest operation forms part of a broader removal operation that has seen a total of 100 illegal immigrants of various nationalities removed from Zambia between 7th and 8th April 2025.”
He further disclosed that during the same period, the Department of Immigration successfully secured 40 convictions, and refused six individuals entry into Zambia for failing to meet the necessary entry requirements.
“The Department of Immigration would like to remind all individuals and organizations to comply with immigration laws and report any suspicious activity to the nearest immigration office,” he concluded.
