A 19-YEAR-OLD man of Luanshya District in the Copperbelt Province has allegedly been beaten to death by a group of young men who were digging a grave at Mpatamatu cemetery.

Copperbelt Province police commanding officer Pathias Siandenge said the incident occurred on Monday around 11:00 hours.

He identified the victim as Kelvin Chanda.

He said two rival gangs had gone to the cemetery to dig a grave for one of their member’s sister who had died, when an altercation ensued.

“During the altercation, it is alleged that one group had been smoking cannabis, and a boy from the other group approached them to request some. An argument ensued and the boy was subsequently beaten,” he said.
