Chama District marked KK Day with a sporting event in honor of the country’s founding President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, bringing to memory his love for sports.
The district characterized the day with various sports disciplines apart from speeches, including the KK Choova Bicycle competition and a thrilling football match between Sundown Football Club and Luchena Football Club.
In the bicycle competition, riders from across the district competed in a 17-kilometer race, with Moses Bwalya, popularly known as Choova Samakai, emerging victorious and winning K1500.
The second-place winner received K1000 and the third-place winner took home K500.
The football match ended 2-2 in regular time, with Sundown claiming victory 5-4 in a penalty shootout, taking home K1500, while Luchena received K1000 for second place.
The district also witnessed a netball match between Katangalika and Chama Giants which ended with Katangalika scoring 27 goals and Chama Giants scoring 24 goals.
Katangalika, in first position, walked away with K1500 and Chama Giants, in second position, walked away with K1000.
Chama District Commissioner Yobe Goma has encouraged youths to emulate the life of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, who dedicated his life to productive activities for the development of the country.
And Chama Sports Advisory Committee Chairperson Lukonde Mpundu said the event aimed to promote physical fitness among youths and honor Dr. Kaunda’s legacy.
Mr. Mpundu also announced that the top three winners of the Choova bicycle competition would represent Chama District at the provincial level later this year.
