A 17-year-old boy from Magazine Compound in Chipata has died after being hit by a vehicle.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, the fatal road traffic accident occurred today around 07:40 hours at Lutembwe Bridge, near Chipata Police Camp along Chadiza Road.
The driver, 38-year-old Gift Nkhata of Mchini Compound, who was operating a Mitsubishi Canter, escaped unhurt.
Mr. Mweemba said the deceased, Watson Mwape, sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot.
He explained that the accident occurred when the driver, due to excessive speed, veered to the extreme left and hit the pedestrian, who was walking off the road in the same direction.
