A police officer from Nakonde district has lost his life in a road accident while traveling to visit his family in Mansa District in Luapula Province.

Assistant Superintendent Angel Phalu, in charge of intelligence in Nakonde, died on Saturday afternoon in an accident at in Senga district along the Kasama-Mbala road.

According to Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Dennis Moola, Mr. Phalu was on his way to Mansa when the accident occurred.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are still are yet to be given.

The deceased came to Muchinga province from Luapula in 2019, and has been described as a reliable officer who played a key role in curbing crime in the border town.

His death has been met with shock and sadness.

He is the second public servant from Nakonde lost under smilar circumstances in months.

In September last year, ZABS Inspector Stephen Shula Chifwelu based at Nakonde One Stop Border post lost his life in a road accident in Mukushi district while on his way to Kabwe to visit his wife and children.

Mr. Phalu’s body is currently in Kasama, and funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
